A - Level Physical Education at CBSC
The OCR Specification is conducted at CBSC over two years with a select few undertaking the course in Year 11.
Aims of the course
The AS/A2 Level Physical Education course develops
· physical competence
· knowledge of the factors that help or hinder young peoples participation in sport
· understanding on the structure of the body and how physical activity can affect elements of it
· knowledge on how we learn skills
· understanding of the psychological factors that affect performance
· evaluative skills in what constitutes a balanced, active and healthy lifestyle
Course content
The course is split into four Units over two years with two Units taught at AS Level and two Units at A2. The course has a 60% theoretical weighting and a 40% practical weighting with eight lessons over two weeks. In the first year, the theoretical Units are as follows:
- Anatomy and Physiology
- Skill Acquisition
- Socio Cultural Issues
- Exercise Physiology
- Sports Psychology
- Comparative Issues
